Well the UK leg of the 2009 tour is now over and what has been the worst gig of the tour so far in my opinion...
Glasgow!. How disapointing given that it was the only Scottish show and 1st in 23 years.
Dave's voice was begining to sound a little strained by London O2 2nd night and I think the month long break will do him good.
I should also give a mention to Soulsavers who have been the support of the last number of shows I have attended, who were very good indeed. Particuarily the guitarist Richard Warren who was more entertaining than the rest of the band put together.
Next up Levien & Paris, France and Nitzer Ebb D _________________ www.myspace.com/latex16

Has anyone else ordered the FRAGILE TENSION CD single?
If so, is yours also a jewel case?
I ordered mine before Christmas, got lost in the post and was sent again to me and I was surprised to find that it wasn't in a thin slipcase like the other 2 (WRONG & PEACE).
I'm just wondering if I got a later edition.

I got my copy of Fragile Tension the week it came out, and it came in a jewel case. I'm not aware of any that were released in a slipcase.
I have to say that I found it a bit annoying that it was not in a slipcase, otherwise it would have fit in the deluxe boxset of SOTU together with the other CD singles from the album (i.e. Wrong and Peace). _________________ Sean |

Interesting thought. I mean putting them in the boxset. Especially as I keep forgetting where I put these 2 (actually 4 if you count the remix CD's).
They take so little place they are easily misplaced. These, and the singles from the Pet shop Boys latest album... _________________ I've been dreaming of a disco ever since... |

Amazed to see "Alan Wilder" was trending on Twitter last night. His appearance on stage at the DM show bodes well, they've not been the same since he left. _________________

Hmmm not so sure...'It's No Good', 'Only When I lose Myself', 'Home', 'A Pain That I'm Used To', 'John The Revelator', 'Precious', 'Wrong' - all of them amazing singles.
It's the album tracks where things have grown a bit tired and after 30 years - there are fewer places for Gore to explore lyrically.
Not sure if extra bleeps and other sonics from Alan would have made much difference to post 'SOFAD' albums but great to see him back
Hopefully it may lead to Alan possibly producing the next album? _________________ electro news headlines on the hour

Now there's an idea I'd support! It would be interesting to see (or rather hear) how he would approach DM songs now that he has some distance to the troubled times of the early 90's. I really think it could be a very rewarding experience for both Alan and the band... |

It's not so much the "extra bleeps and other sonics" that Alan could provide, but the refinement of musical arrangements. It is well known that Martin produces demos that are quite minimal and simplistic. It seems that part of Alan's role was to expand and improve upon the arrangements to make the songs "bigger". The most obvious example of this is illustrated by the difference between the demo version of Enjoy The Silence and the finished article.
If I was being honest, I would say that there are many songs on the recent DM albums that sound as if they are merely "polished" demos. They may have been recorded and mixed to professional standards, but the actual arrangements don't seem to have been developed to their full potential. I think this is the reason why people have become more disappointed with DM releases of late. _________________ Sean |

Good point especially when you take into consideration what Alan did with 'Enjoy The Silence'.
I do agree that many of the post Alan album tracks have an odd 'demo' quality to them particularly 'Ultra' and 'SOTU' but many of the singles have been terrific sonically.
Perhaps Alan would have made a difference to post 'SOFAD' albums but he's not done much with Recoil to impress me since he left Mode.
Would still like to see him back behind the mixing desk for Mode if they are to record another album. _________________ electro news headlines on the hour

@Latex : (Now I've seen your Stockholm photos) One question I've been meaning to ask (and I keep forgetting)
How many DM gigs have you attended so far?
(I mean in total, not just the current tour) _________________ I've been dreaming of a disco ever since... |
